Dan Meers

In On November 23, 2013, Dan Meers nearly lost his life while practicing a bungee jump stunt at Arrowhead Stadium. The stunt went terribly wrong, and Dan plummeted 75 feet before crashing into the stadium seats. Miraculously Dan survived. During this powerful presentation Dan shares his incredible story and the important life lessons he learned.

Betsey and Tiffiney will dive into the legal aspects of School Nursing and examine the interplay between the IDEA, Section 504 and school nurses. They will also examine other legal hot topics.

School Nurse Resource Track

Participants will discover resources for themselves to assist with direct care, health promotion, and education in the school setting and health office.  Some resources will be specific to Missouri.

Health Condition Management Track
Learn how to provide direct care for students with chronic health conditions.  The presentations will address direct care, case management, and address barriers to learning. 

Skills Lab Track
You asked for it and we delivered!  These skills labs will enhance  your preparedness for emergencies, increase confidence and competence, and allows us to practice teamwork, communication and coordination during emergencies.

School Nurse Leadership Workshop Track
This workshop track is perfect for any school nurse interested in updating or creating a health service policy and procedure manual.

Saving Seconds, Overdose Response for School Nurses

Amber Campbell, Missouri Prevention Specialist

This training is designed for school nurses who are at risk of witnessing a heroin/opioid overdose. Topics include a discussion of opioid use disorder (OUD) as a brain disease, the landscape of the opioid epidemic, risk factors and harm reduction strategies, and how to administer Narcan/Naloxone.

Injuries that occur during the school day are stressful for everyone involved. It is helpful for the school nurse to be able to identify serious injuries, stabilize the patient and provide supportive care until they can be transported to a health care facility, and identify appropriate modifications on return to school.
